Plummer has provided facility and operations improvements at the 75 MGD WTP since 2007. Plummer conducted an in-depth evaluation of process, mechanical and electrical equipment, and Laboratory and Administrative Building facilities. Improvements include conversion of anhydrous ammonia to liquid ammonium sulfate (LAS), where costs were minimized by installing LAS metering skids inside the existing ammonia room. Construction was staged to allow startup and troubleshooting of the LAS system with the existing system in operation. Improvements also included: rapid mix and walking beam flocculator replacements; 3-chemical chlorine dioxide; and conversion to bulk sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) from gaseous chlorine. Chemical feed modifications improved on- and off-site safety and were staged to minimize shutdowns.
This project, which received a 2020 American Council of Engineering Companies Colorado Honor Award, included the first gravity operational mode membrane filtration system in the state of Colorado.
Plummer has worked with the City for over 20 years to evaluate, plan, and design facilities that have allowed the WTP to keep ahead of the rapidly increasing water demands.
